Draft risk evaluation for N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP)

1 min read

A draft risk evaluation for N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) was published in November 2019 and evaluated 30 potential uses of NMP. The EPA evaluation characterized unreasonable risks associated with acute and chronic inhalation and dermal exposure to NMP. NMP is used in adhesives and adhesive removers, sealants, paints and removers, and degreasers. The document focuses on worker and consumer use and the potential for NMP to adversely impact these users. The EPA did not identify a risk to the environment, bystanders, or occupational non-users. The EPA recommends the use of alternative chemicals to NMP for various applications.

The draft risk evaluation is scheduled to be peer reviewed by a panel of scientific experts from December 5-6, 2019.
