There are several key types of regulations to consider after answering the above questions:
- Chemical control regulations ensure chemicals are properly identified and managed within a given jurisdiction;
- Hazard communication regulations requiring warning workers and consumers about potential hazards associated with a product;
- Consumer protection laws require additional labeling and transparency so that consumers have the knowledge to properly use and manage potential hazards and risk associated with the products they buy;
- Trade/Import/and Export laws govern what products may enter into or leave a given jurisdiction;
- Industry-specific regulations impact how specific types of products can be marketed or sold as well as additional labeling and assessments that may be required for those types of products;
- Emerging issues regulations which are often unique to a particular concern for health and environmental safety – commonly these involve substances of concern like, for instance, perfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS).
