2025 will be here sooner than you think, as will new EPR laws and regulations. While state legislations are adjourned or operating in a skeleton or informal way, discussions are still ongoing regarding state priorities, needs, and plans for the next legislative session.
H2 Compliance understands that anticipating what might come next is a step in the right direction. To achieve that, it observes these movements holistically, positing the regulatory changes within the big picture of its customers’ compliance and business demands.
This process is a combination of three different tasks and timelines:
1. Get ready to track new proposals and bills
The first step to get ready to track future activity is to check what has happened in the recent past. Are there bills that have been moving through the legislative process, but ran out of time before the session ended? Are there several bills that address the same topic? Are there bills that enjoyed robust bipartisan support? These bills may be reintroduced in the new year.
2. Check state and industry news
News can be a strong indicator of changes to come, so having your antenna tuned to the right question might help you anticipate the change. Are there EPR issues getting lots of attention? Are strategy sessions being held? Are coalitions advocating for or against an EPR issue? Such activities may result in new bills. If drafts have been proposed, track the status of any EPR related bills each month.
3. Know how to apply
Having a theoretical knowledge of a regulatory change is only as useful as understanding what the practical effect of the change to an individual case is. How will the changes that were previously observed impact the customer? What are the scopes relevant to the customer? What are the questions which might be relevant to the customer? What are the timelines allowed for a business to adapt to the change?
H2 Compliance continuously goes through this process to keep its internal knowledge up to date and to be able to support its customers with successful preparations and compliance.
